Jumping
up is one of dogs' most annoying habits and in some cases it can even be
dangerous.Follow the technique
below to help curb your dog's desire to jump up.
Dog's
jump for one reason, because they've learned that that is how to get
attention.We (people)
inadvertently teach dogs to greet us by jumping up when we've rewarded them for
jumping in the past, maybe even when they were small and it didn't matter so
much.
So
what do you do?Well, you remove
the reward they've been getting for jumping up and begin to only reward four
paws on the floor.
It is
crucial that everyone show consistency in not allowing the dog to jump.Family members and guests alike must be
briefed with the new procedure and be on the same page or the training
technique may not be effective.
The
technique is simple if everyone is in agreement. When your dog jumps fold your arms across your chest and
turn away from your dog.Withdraw
all attention until your dog has all four paws on the ground. If you do this every time your dog will
soon realize that jumping no longer gets the response he wants.Remember to reward him with praise and
affection anytime he does keep four paws on the floor.
