Frequently Asked Questions for our 2020 Conference in St. Pete Beach, FL

AIRPORT: Closest Large Airport is Tampa International Airport, Florida (TPA). The airport is about 25 minutes from the Tradewinds Resort (pending traffic). Albert Whitted Regional Airport is located in St. Petersburg, Florida HOWEVER the only airlines that fly into this airport are Allegiant Air, Sunwing Airlines, and Sun Country Airlines.

AIRPORT TRANSPORTATION TO/FROM Tampa Airport - Tradewinds Resort: We have been able to negotiate a rate of $22/person each way with Resort Transportation Services for arrivals 9/26 and 9/27 between 9am and 9pm - also for 10/1 and 10/2 returns to airport between 9am and 9pm. You will be grouped with 2 or 3 others arriving within 15-20 minutes of your flight. You will need to contact them directly to schedule your transportation by NO LATER THAN September 13th, 2020. If you are bringing a dog, please let them know when you make the reservations. They will confirm all travel, pick-up times and instructions to you prior to your departure. If your flight arrives at a time when no one else is arriving, they will let you know and inform you of cost of a private transfer ($65) and other options (Super Shuttle, Taxi, etc.).

HOTEL PARKING: Parking at the Tradewinds Resort is free for guests staying there. When you arrive you will give them your name you are checking in under. For those not staying at the resort, parking is $25/day. PLEASE NOTE: There is no parking for RV's. If you are planning to arrive in an RV, please contact Alana Owens, Convention Services Manager, at [email protected].

BRINGING YOUR DOG: IACP members only are allowed to bring a dog. This is a privilege allowed our members and for those who demonstrate irresponsible behavior with your dog present, this privilege will be removed for that person for future conferences (i.e. if you want to party all night, your dog doesn't belong in the situation - bars, etc.). You will be required to complete the Hotel's Pet Policy form and also the IACP Release Form (in Document section of this website). The hotel is incredibly pet friendly (to the point of having a small dog park and pet room service menu) and for our conference, the pet friendly areas will be expanded throughout the property. HOWEVER the same rules apply as to dogs allowed in restaurants and bars. Dogs ARE NOT allowed in any of the pools/hot tubs... if you are caught with your dog in one of the pools/hot tubs you will be immediately asked to leave the Conference by the Board. All the pet friendly rooms are one bedroom suites and are in one building. You MUST call the hotel to reserve one of these rooms - there are 50 only.

VACCINATIONS REQUIRED: We have worked with the Tradewinds to alter their standard pet policy (requiring most standard shots/vaccinations). For the IACP Conference, the only requirement for vaccination is Rabies, which is Florida state law. You must provide proof of rabies within the last 2 years to the hotel via fax or e-mail 10 days prior to your arrival minimum. For titers - you must provide a letter from a licensed veterinarian as proof.

ARE THE BEACHES DOG FRIENDLY? The beaches in front of the resort area in St. Pete's are NOT dog friendly. This is controlled by the City of St. Pete and the St. Pete police force and is patrolled regularly and the fine is over $500 if you are caught on the beach with your dog. The hotel grounds are very pet friendly. Ft. DeSoto State Park (about 15 minutes away) has beachfront that IS dog friendly. You can book the hotel shuttle service to/from for about $5 each way.

ARE CHILDREN AND/OR MY SPOUSE ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE IN CONFERENCE MEALS? No. Full registration at Conference includes dinner Sunday night, lunches Monday - Wednesday. IACP policy regarding the presence of children at Conference events/sessions (and meals are an event around here) is no one is allowed under the age of 18. For spouses/partners not attending Conference or having paid for Registration - unfortunately due to budgetary constraints we cannot afford to provide free meals to anyone. There are a lot of dining options at the resort for them. THE ONLY EXCEPTION for adults 18 or over is the Wednesday night GALA! Should you wish your friend/partner/spouse to participate you must register them and pay the fee for the dinner.

The Hotel has it's own policy for refunds, if you are concerned over this please contact them directly to find out what the policy is.
