Search Dog Foundation is a national training center and professional working dog organization specializing in the field of urban search and rescue. Dogs that do not continue with search dog training (for a variety of reasons) are either career changed or made available for adoption into pet homes. We maintain contact and support of these dogs via our Lifetime Care Program. This program ensures that once rescued, these dogs never need to be rescued again.

Occasionally, some of our adoptable dogs need a little extra help in finding their way to a permanent home. We are looking for experienced handlers/trainers to join our Professional Foster Program to help us help our dogs. Compensation, incentives, support and flexibility offered. General Southern California area preferred, but exceptions considered.

Happi & Friends is a new business and the work atmosphere will be positive and forward moving.  The general manager will be a salaried position, having oversight and full authority over all activities taking place on the 3.5 acre site, including overnight boarding, daycare, bathing and grooming, assessment and training and off the leash dog park members.  He or she should have at least two years of dog care and handling experience, and since each dog must be evaluated before receiving services, assessment and training credentials would be of additional value.  Initially, 10 hourly handlers and attendants will report directly to the general manager, and additional technicians will be added as needed.   Training can be provided by a 3rd party should the general manager or a member of the staff be unable to perform these duties.    
 
The General Manager is responsible for the daily care, safety and well-being of all dogs.  Responsibilities will include ensuring all systems and equipment in the facility are operating correctly, booking reservations and signing up new members, securing required records, completing Intake Forms and checking in all guests for all services, instructing the activities and managing all the schedules for the technicians, answering customer questions and inquiries, checking out guests, and invoicing and collecting final payments from customers.  The general manager will also work with the owner to schedule special activities and events.

Developing suitable training plans for dogs and documenting their progress.
Teaching dogs and parents basic commands using various training techniques that are best suited to each dog’s personality and attributes.
Implementing appropriate training programs to address and resolve problem areas.
Ensuring that the training areas are clean and tidy.
Contacting clients to schedule training appointments, verify bookings, and inquire into overdue payments.
 
Dog Trainer Requirements:
High school diploma or GED.
Sound knowledge of dog training techniques as well as animal behavior and body language.
Proven experience working as a dog trainer.
Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills.
Strong dog handling skills.
Effective communication skills.
A love for dogs.
Patient and enthusiastic.
Certification through an accredited dog training school or the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers (CCPDT) is advantageous.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Do you have exceptional people skills? Do you have at least one year of publicly verifiable experience as a professional dog trainer OR have you graduated from an in-person balanced dog trainer school?

Pavlov seeks a balanced dog trainer to train board-and-train dogs out of his or her home. As a balanced dog trainer you'll train dogs enrolled in programs, as well as coach and mentor families. Trainers email updates twice-weekly to family members, so they may get a sense for their pup's progress. Each program follows three handover lessons. This position includes animal care including: feeding, cleaning, taking dogs to the vet, provide marketing content, as well as any and all duties associated with caring for board and train dogs. This position reports to the Lead Dog Trainer.

REQUIREMENTS

* 1 Year of verifiable employment as a dog trainer, OR graduation from an in-person balanced dog training school. 

* Familiar with concepts of traditional and contemporary training. Ideally a strong skill set with a prong collar, and remote electronic collar. (Candidates must be genuinely curious and open to learning all skills, tools, and approaches.)

* Able to email videos of dogs you've trained.

* Reliable transportation.

* Professional presentation.

* Have a bedroom or space in your home to keep dogs, as well as a yard with a secure 6' fence.

* Ability to work independently.

COMPENSATION

Pay: Starting pay $5520 a month. This is an independent contractor position.
