The Role
The Dog Trainer is responsible for:

  • Delivering public dog training classes, private lessons, and staff/volunteer training.
  • Works collaboratively with HSC designated staff to develop, implement, promote, and monitor dog training activities.
  • Overseeing of public dog training classes, animal behavior help lines, providing input on shelter behavior enrichment programs, assisting with secondary evaluations for shelter animals when requested, overseeing the Public Dog Park, and conducting private evaluations for community owned pets.
  • Directly monitors dog training program revenue goals and budget.
  • Understands various philosophical approaches to dog training applying science-based, positive, non-violent methods.

What We Need From You

  • Enthusiasm for the mission of the Humane Society of Charlotte and helping animals and the people that love them in our community.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of one-year paid experience working with animals in a kennel, shelter or similar environment preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and effectively with other managers and line staff in order to accomplish daily tasks as well as strategic plans.
  • Knowledge of applied operant conditioning, adult learning theory, and dog training equipment and methods of all types helpful
  • Experience in the use of positive reinforcement methods, including appropriate use of humane training products is required. CPDT certification or equivalent highly preferred (CPDT-KA, KPA, IAABC, K9 Nose Work certification, Academy for Dog Trainers, ABC, etc.)

Search Dog Foundation

Dog Handler/Trainer

Search Dog Foundation is a national training center and professional working dog organization specializing in the field of urban search and rescue. Dogs that do not continue with search dog training (for a variety of reasons) are either career changed or made available for adoption into pet homes. We maintain contact and support of these dogs via our Lifetime Care Program. This program ensures that once rescued, these dogs never need to be rescued again.

Occasionally, some of our adoptable dogs need a little extra help in finding their way to a permanent home. We are looking for experienced handlers/trainers to join our Professional Foster Program to help us help our dogs. Compensation, incentives, support and flexibility offered. General Manager

Happi & Friends is a new business and the work atmosphere will be positive and forward moving.  The general manager will be a salaried position, having oversight and full authority over all activities taking place on the 3.5 acre site, including overnight boarding, daycare, bathing and grooming, assessment and training and off the leash dog park members.  He or she should have at least two years of dog care and handling experience, and since each dog must be evaluated before receiving services, assessment and training credentials would be of additional value.  Initially, 10 hourly handlers and attendants will report directly to the general manager, and additional technicians will be added as needed.   Training can be provided by a 3rd party should the general manager or a member of the staff be unable to perform these duties.    
 
The General Manager is responsible for the daily care, safety and well-being of all dogs.  Responsibilities will include ensuring all systems and equipment in the facility are operating correctly, booking reservations and signing up new members, securing required records, completing Intake Forms and checking in all guests for all services, instructing the activities and managing all the schedules for the technicians, answering customer questions and inquiries, checking out guests, and invoicing and collecting final payments from customers.  The general manager will also work with the owner to schedule special activities and events.
